An Urban Winery in Houston, TX

Winemaking doesn’t just happen in beautiful vineyards. Prior to Prohibition, wineries in the United States were primarily located within the cities. Farmers would bring the grapes in from the fields to the urban wineries for production. Within these multicultural cities, centuries old winemaking heritages would collaborate allowing for fine wine to be produced closer to the consumer and where shipping and trade occurred.

Inspired by this history of winemaking and the current renaissance of urban wineries, we discovered the freedom to pursue our passion for winemaking without leaving the city we love. By creating Decant Urban Winery in Houston, we get to share the wines we make and the process with you.

We love that our Garden Oaks-Oak Forest neighborhood embodies the community spirit at the heart of Houston. Our winery is more than just a place to enjoy the wines we make, but also a space where family, friends, and neighbors can gather together. We want it to feel like you just walked into a friend’s house to hang out. This environment encourages people to be a part of the community, share stories, and make new friends. We believe that all occasions are significant, from making new friends to celebrating an engagement, and every occasion deserves great wine.

Grapes sourced from around the country

We craft our wines from premium grapes grown around the country. We use both classic and unique varietals and explore both known and unexpected regions that practice traditional farming. Since wine is a living, agricultural product, we search for grape growers that are dedicated to the farming practices we believe in. We source our grapes from predominantly organic and sustainably farmed vineyards and prefer to make our wines from old vine fruit as much as possible. Old vines and vineyards farmed with traditional practices result in grapes grown in a healthy soil and environment. This means the grapes require little to no manipulation in the cellar and since we never blend across regions, the wines we create have a natural expression of the vineyard and are full of flavor and dimension.

Handcrafted Wines & Old World Techniques

Our wines are handcrafted in Houston, TX. Our viticulturist and growers send the fruit to us here, and we do all the production in house. Our winemaking practice is done using Old World techniques, which requires a lot of patience and time. We work with our hands and often use gravity or manually transfer our wines throughout the process. Our concrete tanks were custom made for us in Italy and our French oak barrels are made for us at a cooperage in Cognac, France by Ramiro Herrera. Ramiro is one of a few dozen master coopers in the world today and works with us to create barrels that accentuate and compliment the flavors of the wine. We also never add sugars, color, tannins or acid to the must or wine. All of this results in wines that are flavorful, and true.

Woman Owned & Family Run

Decant was founded in 2017 by Kristina and Ron Tucker. Kristina went to work in the vineyard and winery while studying horticulture, sensory science and enology during her graduate studies at Texas A&M University. Ron’s background is engineering and after 20 years of working in subsea oil and gas, decided to take the plunge into wine. We also have a handful of great friends and family that help out in the tasting room, bottling line, or on production when needed.
